7.5 French MAS In a Semi-Auto: Special Caution

Caution

Due to the free-floating firing pin in the MAS 44, 49, and 49/56 rifles, it should be noted that these rifles can slamfire if the proper reloading components are not used. In particular, standard large rifle primers have cups that are generally too soft and should be abandoned in favor of a mil-spec primer with a harder cup (CCI #34 works for me).

These can be obtained from:

  • Huntington's

As I am using these loads in a bolt action rifle, I am not using any crimp. If you attempt to use these loads in a semi-auto firearm (e.g. MAS 49/56) where a crimp is desired/necessary, be sure to start your loads well under the listed minimums (15% or so) and be especially alert for pressure indications.
